1-2+3×4-5... Ruler

$40.00

If it can be said that a ruler is clever, we think this one qualifies. French visual artist Elsa Werth’s intervention on this engraved metal ruler is simple but transformative, like all the best solutions. She placed a mathematical operator in between each number and the product of this sequence—once added, subtracted, multiplied and divided—is equal to the actual length of the ruler: 30 cm on one side, 12 inches on the other.

We are delighted to be the exclusive U.S. stockist of this item.

These carefully chosen and crafted pieces represent a considered mix of the esoteric and the highly pragmatic. Many of these simple things reflect the hand of the artisan or the quiet genius of the inventor. They are useful in ways that are difficult to quantify but, if pressed, we would say they make life a little more efficient and a lot more beautiful.

We would be great together -
